Starting right after Christmas 2025, on December 26, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) will act on expanded authority allowing the agency to collect biometric data from aliens entering and leaving the United States.
The new rule eliminates previous restrictions. The Rule authorizes CBP to start collecting biometrics across the country, no longer limited to pilot programs or select entry points. CBP will now capture biometrics of children, temporary workers, lawful permanent residents, and other visa holders.

What will CBP capture? The agency may collect photographs, fingerprints, and other biometric identifiers to check on identity and enhance immigration enforcement. The gross expansion supports Congressional mandates for a biometric entry and exit system.
The Public may leave a comment to the government about the new rule up until November 26, 2025.
